 The next day, Cousin Neil invited us over to his place for a costume party.  Dad even brought Sawyer, since it was right next door. Neil's house used to be the Alto mansion, his grandmother was the Alto heiress, Holly.  So, while we're getting ready to go inside, it starts to rain. I'm not sure why Mom decided to wear a wedding dress and paint her face but...  ...or why AJ decided to come as a cowplant...  ...or why my baby sister, Skylar, decided to dress as a bunny ... ... but Halloween is Halloween, and, of course, it's the silly season.   Neil served grilled cheese sandwiches.  I heard him asking AJ all kinds of questions about the military and about Fort Starch. "Do they have drill sergeants screaming in your face?" I heard him ask.  Mom even broke out her guitar. Really? Was I in some kind of alternate reality or something? Mom NEVER plays the guitar, even though she can, and even though she was trained in it. Cousin Neil stood there like he was used to it, but the rest of us, our mouths are still on the floor.  Skylar found the Simbox in the spare room and started playing on it. I guess I know what HER Snowflake Day present will be.  |
