January 9

After Kyle and I got in from the coffee house, I found AJ in a heated battle with a burglar! "Have you bothered to call the campus police?"

"Sis," he told me after kicking the burglar's behind, "I AM the campus police."

One of the history professors in the fine arts and humanities department retired -- and Mom has been hired away from her job at the other college to replace him. As I've said in my previous update, I've got mixed feelings about her taking this job here at my school. BTW, I took a peek at her syllabus, and it looks impossible -- or should I say, impassible... Have to say, I'm glad I have Fort -- even though I'm barely passing his class.

That isn't the only change. Guess who's now working part-time at the campus radio station? Yeah, apparently my Simlish teacher submitted my name for consideration. Right now I'm mostly going around reporting current events on campus.

The next morning outside the art building there was a huge fight between two fellow students. The guy who had been watching the fight didn't even try to break it up, and was actively rooting for one party over the other.

Later that evening, back at the sorority, Kay and AJ managed to find each other like moths to a flame. "We need to talk," I heard Kay say.
AJ shrugged. "What's there to talk about?"
"Us."
"There is no 'us,' Kay." AJ's tone was pensive. "I thought I told you, we're just friends. And that's how it's going to stay."
"What about Samantha?"
AJ shrugged again. "Same with her." He heaved a deep sigh. "I just don't think -- I don't think I'm ready -- you know, for all this."
Kay didn't look convinced at all, though. To be honest, I'm not sure Kay is convinced of anything. They're putting each other through absolute hell -- and for what? And why? I just don't get it.
Satis is right, I thought as I saw them there talking. They're both equally to blame for this, and they've both got to figure out how to fix it.

Meanwhile, Kyle surprised me (and apparently his roommate) by grabbing me and kissing me on the lips. Have to admit I was more than a little taken aback by his gesture; however, it wasn't long before it was reciprocated.

If this is how kisses are supposed to feel, then I was in total ecstasy.

While I was at the park to report on the outdoor talent show, I accidentally made a discovery about our dear Dr. Fort.

He moonlights as a magician? Wow, he can't be that bad, then. I guess I'll try to stay awake in his class from now on, lol.

The next day, Kay asked me to go with her to the library to help her with her research paper for physical education. She wanted to do something on maintaining animal health, so I tried to find some websites and books that would give her an idea on what direction to take her paper in.

AJ texted me saying he was going to this robotics symposium and wanted me to come.

"What's up, Sage?" Kay asked me, "you look positively distracted."
I let out a deep breath. "I got a lot on my mind."
"Is it about Kyle?"
I shook my head no, but I wasn't exactly telling the truth, either. "Kyle and I kissed last night --"
"And?"
"It felt great --"
"So, what's the problem?"
"Kay, you met him first! I feel like, like, I'm stealing your boyfriend or something."
"Sage, he asked you out, not me."
"I know, but still --" I took another deep breath. "And especially with the situation going on with AJ --"
"AJ and I talked. We're fine." I could tell by the tone of Kay's voice that she was lying. "Besides, there are plenty of other guys on this campus. Sage, you're gorgeous. Tall, blond, blue-eyed, with legs that go on for miles. Your phone ought to be ringing off the hook."
I knew this Kyle situation was upsetting her. More than that, it was upsetting me. I was falling for him and he wasn't even mine to fall for.

"I'm not that pretty, Kay," I replied back. "You're the pretty one." I decided to change the subject. The more I thought about Kyle the more uncomfortable I got.
"My mom's teaching here now."
"That's great!"
"She said they gave her an offer she couldn't refuse. She's got a rental house and the school's paying all her expenses. She does the lecture on Tuesday afternoons and she has two other classes during the week."
"What's she teaching?"
"I think she said she has a couple history classes and a paranormal studies course."
"Sage?" Kay said, looking up at me from her book. "This is bothering you!"
"I dunno," I said, "it's just -- weird."
"Sage, you said so yourself, she used to be a tomb raider and a ghost hunter. You even told me about all the stuff you found in her private museum back in Sunset Valley. I'm pretty sure people would be fascinated to hear her story."
"I guess so, but --"
"But what?"
"She's here to teach history --"
"Sage, she IS living history. She didn't just talk the talk, she walked the walk too. What could be better than that?"

Spent the next afternoon over at mommy dearest's rental near the student union. She got a four-bedroom rental, she said, in case we (me, AJ, Satis, or Imsety) wanted to spend nights over. Have to say, having the school's star professor for a parent, while incredibly awkward, does have its perks.
Had an assignment for history and of course, went over to mom's for some pointers.
"You know, mom," I began while she opened her history book, "I'm thinking about changing my major."
Mom sighed. "Again, Sage?" she asked me. "To what this time?"
"Creative writing."
"Really?" She looked surprised that I expressed an interest in writing, basically, in doing what she does.
"You know what I always told you guys, what my dad used to tell me. Whatever makes you happy will make me happy."
"Yeah, right, mom," I chuckled. Somehow I have a difficult time believing that. I realize she has an IQ of about two billion, so she has high standards for us, her children. Dad said that when they were going to school together, she used to correct the teachers.

"Yo, Sis," AJ said while grabbing a plate of salad and sitting next to me, "whaddya think of mom's crib?"
I'm actually younger than AJ, by six simdays. But I feel responsible for him. I feel like I have to watch him, take care of him.
"I can see myself crashing over here a couple times."
Yeah, I thought, when you're not fighting with Samantha or Kay.
"I told Kayleigh we were just going to be friends."
"She doesn't seem too happy about that."
"We're too different. We've got nothing in common, really. I said the same thing to Samantha, too. I can't deal with all this right now, and mom too."
"She wants you on the dean's list."
"I dunno who she thinks I am. I'm not you, Sage."
"You can at least do better, I think, AJ. I know you're better than a C average."
"She needs to take my classes, then." AJ managed a chuckle.
